Epstein-Barr virus, or EBV, is one of the most common human viruses in the world. EBV is also known as human herpesvirus 4 and is a member of the herpes virus family.
EBV can cause infectious mononucleosis which is a contagious illness commonly occurring in teenagers and young adults. The virus is also associated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Burkitt's lymphoma and Hodgkin's lymphoma, etc.
EBV is contagious and easily spreads through saliva (oral) contact. It can also spread through blood and semen during sexual contact, blood transfusion, and organ transplantation.
Symptoms of EBV infection vary from asymptomatic or flu-like symptoms in the early stages to throat inflammation, fatigue, fever, swollen lymph nodes, rashes and other symptoms in the later stages. Susceptible groups are mainly children and people with weak immunity.
Most people will get infected with EBV in their lifetime. Detection of EBV is important for diagnosing and managing the associated illnesses.
Diagnosis of Infectious Mononucleosis
Infectious mononucleosis, or mono, is a common illness caused by EBV. Symptoms may include fever, throat inflammation, and swollen lymph nodes. The course of the disease is several weeks, and a few can be delayed for several months.
Diagnosis of Cancers
EBV is associated with several cancers, including Hodgkin's lymphoma, Burkitt's lymphoma, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma, etc. Cancer from EBV is the result of viral genes from the virus that change the growth cycle of infected cells and cause them to become cancerous. EBV Test can be used to diagnose these cancers and to monitor their recurrence.
Monitoring Transplant Rejection
EBV is associated with organ transplant rejection, EBV Test can be used to monitor for it. In transplant patients, elevated EBV levels may indicate transplant rejection.
Daan Gene's EBV Test Kit uses real-time fluorescent PCR method to directly detect of EBV DNA in human serum, plasma, and whole blood specimens, which is a rapid, sensitive, and accurate testing solution.
Detection Kit for Epstein-Barr Virus Nucleic Acid (PCR-Fluorescence Probing)
High Sensitivity: LoD 1.0×102 IU/mL
Internal control is set to monitor the whole process
Positive quantitative reference are traceable to EBV WHO international reference
Comprehensive performance assessments validate the high specificity, sensitivity, and consistency of EBV test kit, supporting its use in the detection of infectious mononucleosis and EBV infections.
